I have recently had clients asking about small bumps under the skin on their face. Almost rash like. With Spring well on the way, it's a great time to continue the cleansing of old with new, under the skin you have it the skin you really want. To my surprise the big deal this year at the trade show were two things; the red LED (Light emitting diodes) lights. How do advanced facial treatments work?
Enzyme peels work to breakdown keratin in the dead cells on the surface of the skin. They generally produce a more even peeling of the cell build up and help to slightly dilate the follicle openings which make extraction much easier. Light chemical peels which include glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid work by dissolving the lips in the pore opening which bond to the cells on the surface of the skin like cement. Light chemical peels only exfoliate the outer most layer of the epidermis. This causes a sloughing action in the superficial layers of the skin resulting in the regeneration of new cells. These cells are healthier because they have not been exposed to the environmental elements. Thus over time the skin becomes smoother, more youthful and radiant. Continued treatments of light chemical peels will soften lines and wrinkles and allow treatment products to penetrate into the base of the epidermis as well as stimulate the dermis to help such conditions as; premature aging, hyper pigmentation, acne, surface scarring and sensitive skin.

Microdermabrasion is a form of gentle exfoliation of the skin using mineral crystals. This process reveals the newer, healthier, younger skin underneath. Microdermabrasion can be added as a “boost” to most facial treatments or can be preformed as a single service.

DermaPod LED Satellites
The LED satellites of the Derma Pod system are the latest in skin care treatment technology. By using different spectrums of light treatments are more specific for hyperpigmentation (brown spots), acne, sagging skin, and aging skin. The advantage of LED technology is that unlike lasers, the lights do not get hot and therefore will not damage the skin, but still produce effective results. I just had to take a minute to say thank you! Well I asked you for help to deal with my complexion and did you come through for me. After only three facial treatments and using the recommended skin care products, the difference in my fine lines, acne, blackheads, dryness, and clogged pores has resulted in a younger and smoother complexion that I haven't experienced in years. Need to make you lips look fuller,but do not like needles. Try this trick; After applying your Jane Iredale lip colour, dab a small amount of light coloured shimmer or eyeshadow in the center of the bottom lip and instantly gain a pouty lip.

Using Skin Care Products

A step by step guide on how and when to use the products you purchase from Skin Deep.

For information on protocol and skin care after a clinical facial treatment scroll down.

Note that when using any product it will go further and work better when used on damp skin. This means that you will use less product than recommended on the bottle.

Evening

Use a gentle cleanser such as Dermed surface lotion cleanser or Janson Beckett organic cleansing milk to remove any make-up, dirt, grime, pollutants,or sweat from the day. Wash your hands, rinse, add a small amount of product to your hands and wash over entire face. Cleanse with the magic mitt (available at Skin Deep. A antimicrobial cloth to clean your skin) or cleansing pads. I recommend you do not use a face cloth as the detergent it was washed in can be released when the cloth is wet, this can irritate sensitive and acne prone skin.
Second treatment cleansing. The first cleanser was to remove surface impurities and to prevent these impurities from going deeper into the skin with the treatment cleanser. The treatment cleanser is to cleanses and treat the skin at a deeper level. Skin Deep recommends Dermedacne, sensitive, dull and or dry. These cleansers clean deep into the skin and help to correct problem skin. You will notice the differences right away. apply and remove same as first cleanser.
While the skin is still damp add a small amount of Dermed or Janson Beckett toner for your skin type to your magic mitt or damp cleansing pad and apply to skin. Note that all toner are not made the same. The purpose of a toner is to replace your acid mantel which is the protective barrier of your skin. This protective barrier is broken when washed with water and takes your skin 6 to 16 hours to replace it, leaving your skin exposed to the elements which will do damage to your skin over time. Therefore, it is important to make sure the toner you are using is pH balanced. You want to apply the toner to damp skin. Leaving the skin damp.
Now you will add treatment serums if recommend for your skin care regime. This would be Intensive lightening serum,( which is a must for anyone receiving or planning to receive advanced chemical peels) this serum can be used as a spot treatment on dark spots and or all over if being used as a prep for facials, Vital C serum,( this is a potent antioxidant use to strengthen the collagen in the skin. It is one of the few topical products that has the ability to support the collagen system helping to prevent sagging in the skin. Dermed Vital C serum comes in an airless pump. This is very important. The form of vitamin C in this product is L-ascorbic acid,which when exposed to air, the antioxidant value becomes unproductive making unbeneficial to the skin. Dermed's packaging does not allow air to get into the product. Making it very effective until completely used.),and or anti acne serums. Apply small amount to damp skin.
Apply a small amount of eye serum around the eye area. Making sure to put some on the glabella. (a.k.a. as your 11 or frown lines). Janson Beckett Dermal excel 7 is the Cadillac of eye serums. If you have not tried this product then you are missing out. It helps to stretch out your Botox treatments. Okusil by Janson Beckett on the under and over eye area. It helps to tighten the skin. Remember you need a small amount. Pat gently into the skin with your ring finger.
Apply 1/2 pump of Janson Beckett Skin Prep. This product will help you to maintain the moisture in the skin. When you are using treatment products and receiving treatment services moisture will escape the skin. It is very important to replace it constantly. I love Janson Beckett Skin Prep because it contains hylauronic acid, which occurs naturally in the skin to bind water to the skin. This is diminished when we expose our skin to the elements and more advanced skin care treatments. The Skin Prep also contains trace vitamins and minerals which are very beneficial to the skin. It is great for all skin types, even oily.
Apply night cream. This is an important step. The skin does not produce moisture when you sleep. Skin Deep offers Janson Beckett anti aging Night cream or Dermed depending on your skin type. Apply a small amount to damp skin.
Now look in the mirror and tell yourself one positive thing about yourself. You're done!

Morning Skin Care

This is the best time to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation is one of the key steps in anti aging the skin. The skin renews its self while you sleep, pushing old skin cells to the surface of the skin. Exfoliation helps to remove the build up of dead skin cell, stimulates circulation which brings oxygen and nourishment to the skin, while helping to eliminate toxins, leaving the skin polished and allowing other beneficial ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin. Soft net deep cleanser by Nelly Du Vuyst is our most popular skin exfoliant. Apply a very small amount on a soft facial brush that has been wetted with warm water. Use the brush in soft circular motion all over the face and neck. You will love this step. It can be done in the shower as well. Rinse the skin with the magic mitt or a cleansing pad when done. Leave skin damp.Note when you are finished using your brush rinse it out with warm water and store on a clean cloth brush side down. This allows the brush to drain and dry out. Do not store with the cap over the bristles. The cap is used to protect the bristles on the brush when traveling.
Apply toner to the magic mitt or a damp cleansing pad, apply all over skin,leave damp.
Apply 1/2 pump of Vital C serum onto damp hands, rub together and apply all over damp skin including your neck. This can be done either morning or night.
Apply 1/4 pump of Skin Prep, this step should be done morning and night. Apply to damp skin all over the face and neck.
Apply a small amount of eye cream or serum. Using your ring finger gently pat product into skin.
For anti- aging apply 1/4 pump of Janson Beckett Alphaderma C to damp skin. This has an spf of 15 in it.
If you did not need to do step 5 then apply Dermed oil free sunscreen spf 28. If you are using the Jane Iredale mineral make-up it can be applied last for your sunscreen protection.
Apply treatment cream for your skin type, if necessary, to damp skin.
Apply Jane Iredale mineral make-up.

Protocol and skin Care after a Clinical Facial Treatment: (This includes Microdermabrasion, Light Chemical Peels and Enzyme Peels.) For Advanced peels scroll down to the next section

No strenuous exercise for 24 hours after treatment.
Do not use an exfoliant or scrub for 24 hours after treatment.
Limit sun exposure and wear sunscreen of at least an SPF 15.
If you must wear make-up only Jane Iredale is acceptable. It also has an SPF of 20.
Do not use any corrective serums for 24 hours after treatment.
Apply treatment toners to the skin with a wet cloth or gauze.
Apply cream only if recommended to do so by your esthetician.
Avoid excess heat. Such as, from a hot oven or steam from boiling water.
Avoid excess hot water from bath or shower for 24 hours after treatment.
If the skin becomes uncomfortably hot, cool down with a cold cloth.

Following these rules will give you the best result after your skin care treatment and help to avoid unnecessary stress on the skin.

Protocol and skin care use after an Advance Chemical Peel (Includes: Salicylic, Jessners and TCA )
Note that post inflammatory hyper pigmentation(brown patches) can result from having advanced peels. To help avoid this a lightening serum is recommended pre- treatemt.

You should not wash your face the first day after the peel. You can rinse with cool water and pat dry as often as you like after the first six hours following the peel.
On the second day you may cleanse with the Surface Lotion Cleanser and rinse with cool water.
Apply prescribed moisturizer.
Apply Sun protective cream SPF 15 or higher or Jane Iredale Minerals. Must be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure.
No strenuous exercise for 24 hours.

Here's a great way to give your skin moisture in the hotter summer months without over doing it:

Use a product such as Janson Beckett's Skin Prep that has hyaluronic acid as one of it's main ingredients. This will bind water to the cells, where it is needed most while keeping your skin supple. Make Lashes appear longer using this great tip;

To make lashes appear longer, hold your mascara wand vertically and sweep mascara across from side to side over the tips of your lashes then coat the rest of your lashes as usual in a horizontal direction moving the wand up and down. For those that are lash "challenged" there is always Revitalash. This product will make even the shortest lashes noticeably longer in just two months, guaranteed!

Find your skin is dull? Here is a great way to bring life to your skin. Use a pale shimmer colour such as pink or yellow, my favourite is Jane Iredale's Moonglow, it has four fabulous colours that can be used as blush, eyeshadow and highlighter. Dip your blush brush or makeup sponge into the powder and dap a spot on your forehead, bone on either side of your nose just below the sunken area of the eye socket, straight down the nose and on the center of your chin. This is a trick that movie stars have used for years.

Jazz up your eye make-up with this simple little trick; With an eyeliner or detail brush mix a little water into a shimmery coloured eye shadow and apply as eyeliner. Here is a great tip from Robert Jones, a world renown make-up artist; To achieve a natural foundation look, start with a sheer liquid foundation. It evens out the skin tones and helps to hide any flaws. A secret of mine; I use Jane Iredale liquid minerals before applying my Jane powders. Is it true that after having advanced facial treatments I will not be able to sun bathe?
