Sept 2015

September is a time to wind down from a glorious summer and get back into routines, but not without a fight. We Nova Scotians love to extend our summers for as long as we possibly can. And who can blame us, with the weather being so beautiful and the ocean waters being warmer than usual, it's hard to pull oneself away from the beach, cottage or perhaps it's the outdoors deck, but alas children have to go back to school and household duties need tending to, not to mention our sun kissed skin. Time for a deep cleansing and repairing facial at Skin Deep Aesthetics. Read on to learn of ways to make the summer last.

-Deep cleaning to remove excess sebum and built up dead skin cells.

Summer Skin Care extended
The fall can be still quite warm and sunny causing our skin to have a bit more oil than usual. It is a good idea to continue to use skin care products that help to reduce oils in the skin and kill bacteria to prevent breakouts. Some favourites:
DerMed Clarifying Moisturizer Matt-will hydrate the skin without clogging pores or feeling heavy.
Totarol serum to reduce and control breakouts

Recipe for the month
With kids back to school it is nice to have a little treat to put in their lunches.

Best Oatmeal Coconut Cookies Every!
passed on to me from my sister Joanna

1/2 cup melted or very soft coconut oil
1/2 cup of light brown sugar. (I used coconut palm sugar)
1 egg
2 cups of old fashion oats

1 1/2 cups of sweetened coconut flakes- ( I used unsweetened and found to be just as good.)
Preheat oven to 325. Stir together the coconut oil, sugar and egg until smooth. Add the oats and stir until well combined. Stir in the coconut. Scoop 2 TBsp portions onto a parchment or silpat lined baking sheet. Bake for 12 minutes and let cool 10 minutes, before moving to a wire rack or plate. Once cooled completely store in an airtight container.
