I recently came across an old Meringue Pie recipe in one of myself put together recipe books. I was going through the recipes and removing the ones I no longer use. I was about to throw out the Meringue Pie recipe, but was finding it hard to "let go" because it reminded me so much of my Nanny Forrest. She made the most incredible pies from scratch without any recipe.
As I longed for those days of sitting in Nanny's kitchen I had an inspiration to keep the recipe and use it in the Soul painting/college class I will be taking part in on Saturday. The idea of this Soul painting class is to remember someone from our past, so who better than my Nanny Forrest who loved her Red Rose tea, her grandchildren and handmade doilies, in which pretty much every surface in her house was covered with! On damp cold days the wood stove would have a roaring fire, which nanny sat next to in her rocking chair, often keeping her cup of Red Rose tea right on the top of the stove to keep it piping hot. Even in the summer!! Warm was not acceptable to Nanny, it had to be hot!
When I asked my older sister if she might have some photos of Nanny Forrest, I was really surprised at just how much I look like her. Being over 50 myself, I look back at photos of my Nanny Forrest at 50 and quickly realize just how far we have come in keeping ourselves so youthful today. Lucky for my Nanny Forrest she aged well, but today we have so many options for skin care treatments and advancements in products effectiveness that we really do have it good.
