Cosmeceuticals productsUntil recently it was believed that the skin was an impenetrable barrier. Today we know that products ingredients can penetrate the skin depending on their molecular size and chemical components. By definition, a cosmetic product remains on the surface of the skin but does not reach the skin's dermis and is not absorbed by the blood capillaries. Cosmetic products are formulated for beautification of the skin and make no drug claims. Products that penetrate the dermal layer are classified as pharmaceuticals and are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Advances in science and technology have given us a new classification of cosmetic ingredients called "cosmeceuticlas". This classification combines cosmetic and pharmaceutical ingredients, bridging the gap between traditional cosmetics and pharmaceutical products. Cosmeceuticals are formulated with specific characteristics that penetrate and remain in the epidermis to perform definite functions, such as: managing the way melanin is diffused in the skin cell, facilitating water retention and neutralizing free radical reactions which reduce the affects of aging, suppressing bacteria which causes acne, and calming inflammatory responses in sensitive skin.
Institut' DERMed products are cosmeceuticals formulated using chiral technology. Chiral is an advanced process that isolates the left and right sides of the molecules to correct the way they fit into the skin's receptors. All cell receptors in the body are either left or right handed; therefore, substances that do not match the cell's receptors do not penetrate. Chirally corrected molecules are processed to fit the skin cell's receptors increasing product penetration. How do advanced facial treatments work?
Enzyme peels work to breakdown keratin in the dead cells on the surface of the skin. They generally produce a more even peeling of the cell build up and help to slightly dilate the follicle openings which make extraction much easier. Light chemical peels which include glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid work by dissolving the lips in the pore opening which bond to the cells on the surface of the skin like cement. Light chemical peels only exfoliate the outer most layer of the epidermis. This causes a sloughing action in the superficial layers of the skin resulting in the regeneration of new cells. These cells are healthier because they have not been exposed to the environmental elements. Thus over time the skin becomes smoother, more youthful and radiant. Continued treatments of light chemical peels will soften lines and wrinkles and allow treatment products to penetrate into the base of the epidermis as well as stimulate the dermis to help such conditions as; premature aging, hyper pigmentation, acne, surface scarring and sensitive skin.
Microdermabrasion is a form of gentle exfoliation of the skin using mineral crystals. This process reveals the newer, healthier, younger skin underneath. Microdermabrasion can be added as a “boost” to most facial treatments or can be preformed as a single service.
DermaPod LED Satellites
The LED satellites of the Derma Pod system are the latest in skin care treatment technology. By using different spectrums of light treatments are more specific for hyperpigmentation (brown spots), acne, sagging skin, and aging skin. The advantage of LED technology is that unlike lasers, the lights do not get hot and therefore will not damage the skin, but still produce effective results. The use of microdermabrasion or a chemical peel before light therapy allows the light to penetrate better for optimal results.
A series of six to twelve treatments is recommended for problem skin, but you will notice smoother more youthful looking skin after one session.
